Changing the interface language (MUI)

Windows 7 supports a Multilingual User Interface (MUI) which means it allows you to change the interface language of a operating system to the language of your choice, the menus and dialogs and any other type of Windows 7’s interface will change into a different language. not all languages are available but most of the common languages are available. In this article I’ll refer to Windows 7 Ultimate, changing the display language in other versions may not be possible without playing with some registry values.
So, how do you add a new display language? First open the Control Panel (Click the start button and choose Control Panel).

Navigate into Clock, Language and Region.

In the next screen choose Install or uninstall display languages.

And then choose Install display languages.

You are going to download the language packages from Microsoft, so choose Lunch Windows Update.

Language packages are under Optional Updates. If you dont have optional updates available click Check for updates.

Select the language packages you want to install, every language packages will add a new language interface for Windows 7. I have selected the Hebrew language package but you can go with what ever you like.

After selecting you desired language packages click OK and in the next screen choose Install Updates.

The process of downloading the updates and installing them will begin.

When the process is done, restart your machine by clicking the Restart now.

After the restart the diaplayed language interface will still be the previous language interface, you need to go to Control Panel and change the display settings. Inside Control Panel click Clock, Language and Region and then click Change display language.

First go into the Administrative tab and click Change system locale and choose the local language you use, this setting will enable the display of you local language in encodings other than unicode.

In this article we installed Hebrew but this will work with any other language package you install.

A window asking you to restart your machine will pop up, choose cancel for now there are a few more things you need to do.

Switch back to the Keyboard and languages tab and change the display language into the new language interface you have installed, here we have Hebrew.

A windows asking you to log off and log on will pop up, choose Cancel and restart your machine.

When the Windows 7 reloads the it’s interface will be in your desired language.
