Installing Windows 7

In this article I will explain how to install Windows 7 as a single operation system on a machine. First you need to get a copy of Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a free trail on Microsoft’s website. After you acquire the installation DVD, put it in the drive and boot your machine from CD/DVD. When the installation loads you will get the following screen:

You may or may not get the next screen which lets you choose your installation type, if you do get it I would suggest going with Windows 7 Ultimate.

Choose your preferred language and continue to the next screen.

Click Install now.

Check the I accept… check box, and hit Next.

If you are doing a fresh install choose Custom, if you are upgrading a machine that has Windows Vista installed on it, go with Upgrade. I would suggest doing a fresh install in ant case, if you plan to upgrade just back up your data, do a clean installation and restore what you need.

In the next screen you can partition your hard drive, if you have data that you care about on your hard drive and you don’t know how to partition a hard drive you should be installing windows 7 by yourself.
You can just go with next on an unallocated space, the installation program will create the partition by itself.

Or you can choose Drive Options (advanced) and partition your drive however you like.

This is the actual installation, the files are being copied.

After the while the installation program will restart your machine.

After the reboot the installation continues. Another reboot will soon follow.

After the reboot you need to create a user, type your desired user name and you may also set your computer name.

Set a password for your newly created user and a hint in case you should forget your password.

Fill in your product key, if you are installing a Window 7 Release candidate you can get a product key on Microsoft’s website.

Click Use recommended settings

Set the time and date.

Set your location.

You’re done.
